Robert J. Smith is a member of KTBS in the Corporate Practice Group.  Robert handles transactional matters for clients in a wide range of industries, including retail, media and entertainment, technology, healthcare, food and beverage and energy. 

Robert’s practice focuses on M&A, finance and securities law matters, including leveraged buyouts, mergers, asset sales and acquisitions, restructurings, reorganizations, secured and unsecured financings and debtor-in-possession transactions.  Robert has experience representing both sellers and interested purchasers of assets in special and distressed situations in and out of court, including section 363 sales.  Robert has represented corporate and private equity clients such as Universal Music Group, See Tickets, Open Road Films, Real Mex Restaurants, Garden Fresh, Ferrandino and Son, Vestis Retail Group, Cerberus Capital Management, Clearlake Capital Group, Callidus Capital and Z Capital Partners.

Robert received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where he was a member and Business Manager of the UCLA Law Review.  He was also a recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the Florence-Virginia Wilson Scholarship.  Robert received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, where he studied Economics. 

Robert is a member of the State Bar of California, the Financial Lawyers Conference and the Turnaround Management Association.
